It was an instant hit, and has gone on to become a staple of wedding reception playlists for the dance shared by a bride and her father. This and a companion song, "Daddy's Little Boy," written by Billy Collins in 1950, have been recorded by many artists, notably by the Mills Brothers, and are considered American standards.
