   最先端の科学捜査をフィーチャーした綿密なディテール、そのひとつひとつがすべて結末への伏線となっているその構成は見事と言うほかはない。前作に比べて犯人の人物造詣が少々浅いのが気にかかるファンもいそうだが、その分、被害者サイドおよびライムとその仲間たちの造詣はより厚みを増した。特に、ライムの麻痺した四肢の代わりに活動する美貌の捜査官、アメリアの存在感が光る。本作で彼への思慕の念をはっきりと自覚したアメリア。シリーズ3作において、ライムを待ち構える事件の内容はもちろん、皮肉屋で人間関係にきわめて臆病な彼が、彼女によってどう変化するのか。ちょっと下世話なお楽しみを用意しておくあたりも、エンターテイメント作家としての著者の手練だといえる。（梅村千恵）
