Australians love their crocodiles, and no city loves them more than the aptly named Darwin, population 70,000, croc population 60,000. This remarkably entertaining 45-minute video concentrates on the effect of the 1972 crocodile-hunting ban on this isolated Northern Territory city at the top of the continent. The positives include tourism, which the filmmakers show in all its tacky glory, from sightseeing boats that lure the large reptiles into leaping in the air to a man who turns deceased crocs into back scratchers. The negatives include maiming and death. But even those are positives for the local newspaper, which predictably capitalizes on crocodile mayhem. Sharing airtime with these colorful characters are scientists and government employees who routinely capture the wayward beasts that swim into the city's harbor. Appropriate for family viewing, despite bleeped-out cursing and a brief glimpse of an exotic dancer in a crocodile-inspired bikini. --Kimberly Heinrichs
