A mainstay on 1970s TV, The episode "The Townie" has various plots with Grandpa walton & Jim-Bob planning to hatch an orphaned duck egg and Grandma Walton relieves a secret she has kept for years: the story of the first time she was kissed. Two warm-hearted, endearing and humorous sub-plots. The main storyline concerns John-Boy and his gal Sarah Simmons (Sissy Spacek) and how after an afternoon movie date she relieves how she is deperate to marry to escape her stern mother. John-Boy is taken aback and confesses that he is too young to think of marriage. She turns her affections to rich, spoiled townie Ted Claypool, Jr. He has a flashy LaSalle coupe and begins to squire Sarah around town but John-Boy is afraid he is only taking her for a ride and doesn't really care for her. With the support of his caring family, he struggles to save Sarah from making a decision that could ruin her life. A good family show that combines humor with drama.
