Recognizing the fifteen New Mexico master folk artists who have received the NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award, the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts, this book deals with the preservation of the diverse cultural heritage of New Mexico. The honored artists include Charles Carrillo, George Lopez, Eliseo and Paula Rodriguez, Ramon Jose Lopez, Irvin Trujillo, Margaret Tafoya, Helen Cordero, Emilio and Senaida Romero, Frances Varos Graves, Esther Martinez, Roberto and Lorenzo Martinez, and Cleofas Vigil. Artwork has been loaned from the Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Art and Culture, Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Hispanic Cultural Center, Albuquerque Museum, Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, and Millicent Rogers Museum.
