He lost because Rosco paid some thugs to break Bud's right hand just before the fight. It became evident to Bud that Rosco worked as a Mafia strongman. So,fearing for his life,Bud took off. He became a sailor. After losing his job,Bud found himself once more being pushed around by Rosco when they met in Napoli(Bud's hometown). They meet a few more times, until it is time for revenge!
