About the StuG III: Built on the chassis of the proven Panzer III tank and fitted with a Krupp short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24 cannon, the StuG III was originally intended as a mobile, armored light gun for infantry support. Later StuG III variants were fitted with the longer barrel 7.5 cm Kwk 40/StuK 40 L/43 or L/48 anti-tank gun and was widely deployed as tank destroyers by the German Wehrmacht.
