These 4 antique lithos illustrate parts of the Codex Troano, hieroglypic plates from the Ancient Mayan civilization of Mexico. Brilliantly colored in the original, they were published by the U.S. government in 1882 in an important ethnological study.
The Spanish Conquistadors destroyed a great many Mayan manuscripts. This surviving one, now part of the Madrid Codex, is at the Museum de America in Madrid. The lithographs are in very good condition with a few small and minor foxing (age) spots, printed on heavy paper, blank on the reverse.
